LIGHT UP THE SKY! | NEW BAND TORCHES BURN BRIGHT.
Millicent Findlay let us in on the work of new London five piece Torches burning a ‘Gloom-Pop’ hole through the scene.
Torches are a London based five piece rapidly making a name for themselves on London’s music scene, having already been featured by the likes of NME and Clash amongst others. Their sound has been described as ‘gloom-pop’ and ‘industrial indie disco stomp’, featuring a heady stylistic mix including booming vocals and a fusion of guitars and electro drumbeats. Last Thursday they played their single launch gig for Sky Blue and Ivory to a packed-out basement at London’s Sebright Arms. Their much hyped sound, combined with an compelling onstage presence from frontman Charlie Drinkwater, makes for a live experience not to be missed.
The single video directed by Alexander Ingham Brook has also been making waves as far away as Brazil, where it featured on MTV Brazil’s music blog. Sky Blue and Ivory is on limited release 7” vinyl, and can be ordered here.
